Loch Lomond Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located on the Lomond Estate near Alexandria, on the southern shore of Loch Lomond in the Highland region of Scotland. It was founded in 1964 and is currently owned by the Loch Lomond Group, backed by Hillhouse Capital Management. Loch Lomond is unusual among Scottish distilleries for producing both malt and grain whisky on the same site, and for using a distinctive combination of straight-neck and swan-neck stills that lets it create several different new-make spirit styles in-house.
A distillery bearing the Loch Lomond name first operated near Tarbet at the north end of the loch as early as 1814, but the present-day operation traces its founding to 1964, when it was established by the former owners of the Littlemill Distillery in Bowling. Production began in 1965. The distillery fell silent in 1984, before Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouses acquired the business and resumed malt production in 1987. A grain distillery was added on the same site in 1993–94, briefly making Loch Lomond the only distillery in Scotland producing both grain and malt whisky under one roof. Two further malt stills were installed in 1999. Ownership passed to a management buy-in led by CEO Colin Matthews with private equity firm Exponent in 2014, and in 2019 the Loch Lomond Group was acquired by the Hong Kong-based investment firm Hillhouse Capital Management, which remains the owner today. Loch Lomond also operates one of only a handful of on-site cooperages left in the Scotch whisky industry, allowing it to repair and re-char its own casks.
Loch Lomond's core single malt range includes the entry-level Original (40% ABV) and age-stated expressions at 12, 14, 18, 21 and 30 Years Old (46–47% ABV). Peated malts are bottled under the Inchmoan and Inchmurrin names, including an Inchmurrin 12 Year Old (46% ABV), and the distillery also releases single grain whisky (46% ABV) alongside blended Scotch under the wider Loch Lomond Whiskies portfolio. The Alexandria production site itself is not open to the public; the group's visitor experience, tastings and shop are run from Luss Distillery on the loch's western shore.
